I get this question quite often as a healthcare provider. Naturally, people want to know if the money they're spending on vitamins for themselves and/or their kids is worth it; especially if they eat relatively well. My answer to this question is yes 99% of the time. Why? It's not a simple answer.
In reality, this can get pretty science-y (that's not a word, I know). A major concern for lack of multivitamins, minerals, amino acids etc comes from soil depletion. With intensive farming methods and the widespread use of chemical fertilizers, many essential minerals and nutrients are increasingly scarce in the soil. As a result, even fresh fruits and vegetables may not contain the same levels of vitamins and minerals as they once did. You may be eating the cleanest, freshest foods available but the SOIL they're planted in really matters more in terms of micronutrients. There's really no way to know this information if you're buying food from a large company.
With that being said, where you buy multivitamins/minerals from also really matters. I have been using the same liquid multivitamins for me and my family for many years and I always recommend this to all my family, friends, patients, etc. I have religiously used this multivitamin amongst other items from this brand because I know it works. While I know some people prefer pill form, I find liquid multivitamins have a better absorption rate and it's easier to share with the whole family! My daughters also use this same bottle (they're 16 & 10 years old).
